General Discussion / Re: Improved Expertise

All this needs to be worked out in a class rebalance patch.

Wizards and clerics need to be toned down and other classes need to be boosted up.

General Discussion / DM plots and feeback
« on: November 07, 2018, 08:32:13 am »
Since a few DMs have asked for feedback i would like to give some feedback and opinions for DM plots and DMing in general but not limited to Blackheart or Mortui.

DM'ing ought to be fun, running your plots and doing your villains or heroes etc. but i am starting to get the impression there's a lack of promoting player agency latetly and most DMs seem more absorbed in their own plotlines.

For example, i have noticed that all of Blackhearts plots are elves. It's always the elves. I knew him as a player and i know how much he loves elves but up until now we had very few elves.
Why not do a plot that can help and involve current initiatives get pushed forward and complete their stories faster so we can all move to a new concept?

So vaguely now we have a new Mayor, House Voust, A Barbarian Tribe, The Adventurer's Guild and i'm not sure what other people trying to do plots.
Wouldn't it be more fun for all and more fulfilling if your villain or DM event tried to include agendas pushed by all of the current factions?

I understand the need for more general plotlines but if you help push character stories faster we can all move on to something else instead of waiting indefinetly for DM input and pray a DM will look favourably.

So instead of elves how about a bandit elven villain? How about some elves attacking a Rengarth Tribe so the barbarians can be directly involved? How about someone asking the adventurer's Guild for aid etc.

You get my point i believe.

General Discussion / Character conflict, intrigue and relationships
« on: October 26, 2018, 12:49:07 pm »
Hello to everyone,

I wanted to make a post that i feel it's a bit necessary on my part to explain a few things, targeted especially to people new or newer to RP.

A character's behaviour should never be confused with a player's ooc views, attitude and should not be linked in any way with how the player feels.

The current character i am playing is highly antagonizing, unforgiving, socially unskilled and bitchy(?) (amongst other things that i don't want to explain for IC reasons).
It's ok to antagonize a character, but it's not ok to throw a fit and let your ooc emotions of hating on X character to spill into your character's IC actions.

Try to have fun and think how would your character react around such a person that they don't like, try to make it a fun experience.
Conflict is what makes things fun.

Games of Thrones wouldn't be what it is if all the characters were a big, friendly bunch loving in other's company.
Villainy and antagonists also aren't solely reserved to DMs.

If you intend to "mechanically" punish a character as part of the conflict think of how valid are your reasons. Sure it's within your right to deny partying with an annoying character according to your likes but said character's player will likely get bored, remain underleveled and might log off and do something else etc.

That's not to say that everyone should group with each other like a paladin with an obvious necromancer but used with ooc spite to mechanically hit a character is simply lame.

Other examples of such is ganking up on a character from all directions (ive seen this before and it saddened me but i wont go into detail) with players even sending hateful ooc comments to the said player.

Currently the said player that was a victim of this behaviour is one of the more liked ones on the server but i won't name names.

I made this post in light of recent developments and how i percieved things in the past and hope it provides some insight for everyone to have more fun while playing and taking conflicts in a fun and creative way

General Discussion / Re: Death penalties
« on: October 24, 2018, 09:15:52 am »
I'm going to offer more general feedback concerning my opinions as well as death penalties

1. The server needs to find an identity. Things keep changing around all the time again and again. At some point set rules must be decided.
Death penalty started at 25%, now it's like 10% and now here we are discussing again how it should maybe be increased again.

2. Characters need an about equal playing field. The servers who have succesfully over the years used pvp as a means to progress the story are low level servers with classes balanced to have a fair chance at each other.

3. People need to be incentivized and encouraged to retire / perma their uber powered up and loot showered characters and start new concepts. There's nothing more boring than logging in day after day to see the same characters with the same stories that grow stale at some point.

4. In contrast to Spiffy i believe leveling should be fairly easy until a point, but higher levels should be conserved for the characters that are leaders or offer RP to the server and community and are otherwise notable. Reaching a high level beyond any kind of soft cap or not even the soft cap should mean a lot of things and not just "I leeched 5000xp and that awesome loot from that DM event". High levels should not be taken for granted and they should be an accomplishment.

I am under the impression that a good number of the playerbase feels almost entitled they should be able to progress past 15 no matter what and that dying means they lost all the progress through DM events they made.

People at the moment just reach 15, start loitering around in the square doing social RP emoting they are bored occasionally or sending tells then either log off or go for some random monster killing.

You can chat in discord about random and social things and theres no certain need to be in character to do that. Same thing you can do in any MMO like WoW but with more interesting monster killing activities you can undertake.

General Discussion / Re: pvp discussion
« on: October 19, 2018, 07:25:34 am »
I want to take part in this discussion to offer a point and in my opinion the biggest point and most important of all.

PVP on this server simply can't work because there's huge imbalances in character power.

There's characters who've been around for almost a year and are near lvl 20, showered in DM loot and can one shoot you.
No matter your skill in pvp there's no way you can have a chance beat such a character unless you wait to gear up and get levels which makes the RP -stale and boring- much like Arelith is in my opinion.

Unless there's some kind of balance in power for the majority of the playerbase like EFU has because it's a pvp server, pvp can't happen.

Groups & Concepts / House Voust
« on: October 17, 2018, 03:31:21 pm »
An ancient House that wasn't part of the Empire, intergrated with a war.
The last stand was made by Maxwell Voust who blew up the ground with explosives killing the 24th legion of Dukarrus and preserving the Estate.

The only surviving members of the family at the moment seem to be Count Lash Voust and Fiona Voust, daughter of the recently deceased Baroness Morgana Voust.
The House owns lands in Southbank but it's only a shadow of it's former self, looking to rebuild and regain.

The House is ideal for:

  • Characters with questionable motives
  • People who would do anything to win, no matter the consquences
  • People who want to play evil vigilantes
  • People who want a Ravenloft twist to their RP
  • Characters who like horror themes
  • Rebels of the Empire
  • Gypsies
  • Pirates
  • Gnomes
  • More...+++

It is currently player driven by me.

I am actively promoting and RPing this ingame but i'm also leaving some information here for anyone interested to roll a character.

In sort, devil pacts, deals, contracts and all sorts of stuff that has to do with devilry.
There is more than meets the eye to the plotline and goals that can't be explained in an OOC post.
